There’s a well-known vintage graphic on the internet titled “My Wife and My Mother-in-Law.” In the vintage image, both a young woman and an older woman are visible, and most people see both of them eventually. However, almost everyone sees one or the other of them first. Basically, it’s a very clever optical illusion. To see both of the women, you have to really shift your focus. Optical illusions of this type are lots of fun to try to figure out. But what is an optical illusion? An optical illusion occurs when the reality is different from what we believe the reality to be.
