There are two kinds of folks in the world. People who love math and people who hate math. There may be a middle group as well, people who are OK with math but don’t love it, but I’ve not run across any of these people. Most people are passionate about their feelings about math, whether they love it or dread it. And when it comes to a brainteaser that also involves numbers, it’s a whole different kind of beast altogether, isn’t it? Sometimes the solutions to these mind-twisting puzzles seem so incredibly obvious, but then we realize we’ve been on the wrong path all along.

For example, take a look at this puzzle and be sure to pay close attention. We’ll reveal the correct answer to this math brainteaser at the bottom of the article. So how would you solve this problem?

Did you guess 10? Or maybe you guessed 12, or even 1. None of those are actually correct. Scroll down for the answer.

Most people probably add up all the 1s and assume that there is a plus sign at the end of every number. However, in this puzzle, there are no plus signs after the two 1s at the end of the second line. What that means is that the number 11 is actually in there twice. That makes the correct answer 30.
