Parents Share Hilarious and Honest Images of Life Before and After Children

I was an only child for 15 years and I didn’t know it at the time, but when I was 15 years old, I soon discovered just how wonderful my only-child life had been. My mom had a baby: my kid brother. First of all, he cried all the time and that put a harsh on my chill because I was trying to watch TV and play games. However, he also needed a lot of attention from our parents, and I was suddenly a lot less important, by necessity. Don’t get me wrong. I loved the kid and still do, but it taught me something.

At the age of 15, I just got a huge education on what it meant o have a baby, believe me. You could call it a free dose of birth control, and my parents didn’t exactly have that in mind. However, I learned that raising a child is a lot of work. I’ve never had children of my own (and that’s totally OK) but my wife had two children when I met her. After some years of being a bachelor, I suddenly found myself the stepparent of two teenagers. My step-daughter was away at college, but my stepson was still a young teenager at home.

Having seen how hard it was for my mom as a parent, I determined to do all I could to make sure I was giving my wife the chance to get some sleep for the first time in 20 years. I’m an early riser, so it was no trouble for me to take my stepson to school every day so that my wife could sleep. She was so incredibly appreciative. The fact is, when you have kids, your entire life changes, both in good ways and challenging ways.

I don’t know anyone who has tried to give a kid back, so I know parents think it’s worth it. Check out these before and after photos from the Get Toddlered Instagram account. They accurately portray what it means to be a parent.
