Old Woman and Her Husband Discuss Their Upcoming Wedding Anniversary

Wedding anniversaries are very big milestones in most relationships because they represent another year of two loving spouses managing not to murder each other. But seriously, anniversaries can remind us of all the things we overcame with our spouse as well as the joy and fun we’ve had over the years. And since divorce is so common these days, the celebration of anniversaries can take on extra meaning for many couples who manage to work things out instead of going that route. One of the things couples manage to stay together longer often have in common is a good sense of humor. The couple in this fictional story is a perfect example.

An old farmer and his wife were leaning against the edge of their pig-pen,

When the old woman wistfully recalled that the next week would mark their golden wedding anniversary.

“Let’s have a party, Homer,” she suggested.

“Let’s kill a pig.”

The farmer scratched his grizzled head.

“Gee, Ethel,” he finally answered,

“I don’t see why the pig should take the blame for something that happened fifty years ago.”
