As people grow older, they encounter new challenges they’d never dreamed of when they were younger, such as developing an illness associated with aging, losing a spouse, and the soul-crushing experience of social isolation. Loneliness can be one of the most difficult things any human being endures in this lifetime. This is one reason so many argue for banning solitary confinement in prisons, describing the practice as cruel and inhumane. One grandmother in Florida learned she had one less concern to worry about — being alone. You see, her faithful grandson, Matthew Steward, arranged for his grandmother to stay with him in a new home he was having built. So now 87-year-old Grandma Bobbe, who Matthew lovingly calls GB, won’t have to live out her golden years all alone!
viral video shared on Matthew’s Instagram and YouTube ee shows the two driving up to a construction site. It turns out that the unfinished residence is their future home. You see, the doting grandson has wished for his grandma to move in with him for quite a while, but how only recently revealed this to GB as a big surprise. While the grandson and grandmother sat together in the car, Matthew tells GB all about the home’s features, such as an accessible bathroom, private sitting room, and bedroom.
Upon hearing these wonderful details, GB could not help but become emotional. The sweet older woman wiped away tears of joy and told her amazing grandson that she’s so happy “somebody wants me.” Matthew replied jokingly:
“Of course we want you! I guess…”
“It meant the world to be able to show her our new home! I cannot wait to actually move into it and have her with us!”
In an interview with Good News Movement, Matthew said:
“I know we are all VERY excited. She was there for me in the past for the toughest time of my life and now I get to take care of her in the final years of her life. I’m very blessed!”
The house is expected to be ready come January, and GB says that she is all “packed up and ready to go.” You can watch this grandma’s adorable and heartwarming reaction in the video below.
